Thought for the Day
We all know that our Government recently lent a considerable amount of the people’s money to the banks to avert a financial crisis. Whether this was right or wrong economically, I am unqualified to say. However, it makes me think about the story Jesus told of a Head of State who found that his senior steward had been systematically robbing him. When the servant confessed his error and asked forgiveness, the Head of State forgave him. Yet, what did that same steward do then? He went out and threatened a fellow steward with dire punishment if he did not immediately return the money that had been lent to him.
In some ways, a number of the banks are now behaving in the same manner. I am not suggesting that people should not be asked to pay back what they owe. However, I think our bankers need to be more ethical in the way they handle those in need. Maybe they should look up the last verse in Jesus’ story and think about it.
See Matthew 18: 23-25
